Put things in focus
Putting things in focus is often the hardest thing to do when beginning this journey. We often don’t know exactly what we want, or we have a hard time saying it out loud. Perhaps we are unsure of how much time or energy we want to commit to making the change. Change is both scary and exciting.
The kinds of questions I ask myself when coming to these forks in the road are: “What am I really hungry for?” “Do I still want the same things I wanted when I began?” “What do I do that makes me truly happy?”
The bottom line is coaching only works if we are able to identify these things.
Roll past obstacles
So, we need to roll past obstacles to get real and identify them. We do this by examining both strengths and weaknesses and then separating out the non-negotiables.
If we start with the 3 biggest strengths and think about all of the ways that those have served you throughout of your life, it reaffirms your confidence in your abilities.
When looking at weaknesses, we need to be honest. Sometimes it helps to ask a close friend or a family member if you can’t draw it out.
Reframe and reset
Let’s reframe and reset by really digging into the things holding you back. Often, it’s fear or old insecurities. We use the things you’re good at to help overcome any weak spots.
We need to reshape how we view our weaknesses and see if there is a different way to interpret them and turn them into superpowers. We are all capable of changing our POV, but we need to be willing to believe that change is possible.
Call to action
Now you tell me about your call to action. We’ve asked and answered the hard questions. We know what you need to do.
What is your plan and a timeframe that you think you can handle? This is very important. Trying to do everything all at once will set you up to fail. We’ll go through the plan, talk about it, and you’ll discover the more you say it out loud, the more confident you’ll become that you can do it!
